13-tile Hong Kong style mahjong 🀄️

We’re the place where LA plays 13-tile Hong Kong style - fast hands, tiles clacking under the bar noise. Home base is General Lee's in Chinatown, and on any given week the tiles are out at the Bamboo Room, Nico's, No Smoking Bar and more. There's usually a table running somewhere in the city. Every night seats 2 levels: beginner/open play tables, where someone will walk you through your first wall, and points tables, where the advanced players keep proper score and the pace picks up. A few good nights is all it takes to go from never-touched-a-tile to counting faan like you mean it. We keep things social - there’s always a good bar, a full table, and people who want to chat. Walk in solo, meet some new friends or catch up with the regulars ✌️

I grew up watching hearing my grandparents play mahjong but never learned until the covid years. It stuck but now it’s taken on a life of its own. I started Mahjong Underground to have a place for myself to see friends and meet new people by building it into my schedule. Same time, same place every week. Friendships and community take time to build and planning stuff with people is hard in LA.
