First time mums-to-be: Ceramic wombat workshop
Something for us before it all changes
I’m hosting a chilled morning for women expecting their first baby to meet and get to know each other as people first (before everything becomes about our babies).
No pressure to make instant friends. Just a small group of women at a similar point in life, doing something creative together and hopefully having some good, open and honest conversations along the way.
Keeping it nice and small with 12 of us.
What we’ll be doing
We’ll be making a pair of ceramic wombats!
We’ll spend an hour playing around with clay and learning different sculpting techniques, guided by Kath at Arbor Studio in Montrose.
No experience needed – it’s completely beginner-friendly. Mostly, it’s something nice to do with our hands while we chat and get to know each other.
After the workshop, our wombats will be fired and ready to collect around 4 – 6 weeks later.
I’ll collect everyone’s finished wombats from the studio, and you can pick yours up from me in Lilydale over the following few months, whenever suits you.
What’s included
- Clay and all tools
- Guided ceramic workshop
- Firing
- Your pair of finished wombats to keep
Just bring yourself and some water.
A little about me
Hi, I’m Lou 👋
I’m a first-time mum-to-be, due in December. I’ve always lived inner city, but moved out to Lilydale about a year ago and I’m keen to meet more women out this way.
I wanted to organise something that wasn’t completely centred around babies, birth or being a mum. Just an easy way to meet some other women as people first, who also happen to be going through the same big change in life.
So I thought making tiny ceramic wombats together seemed like a pretty good place to start.
About Arbor Studio
Our workshop will be run by Kath from Arbor Studio, a ceramic artist based in the Yarra Valley.
Kath creates playful ceramic pieces inspired by the things around her – from wombats and magpies to little everyday treasures.
She runs workshops to share her love of ceramics and help people explore their creativity, regardless of experience.
For Kath, working with clay is about having fun, trying something new and finding a little joy in making things with your hands.
