Hike #3: Sugarloaf & South Jawbone ⛰️

Ready for a challenge? Join us as we tackle one of Victoria’s most iconic hikes in Cathedral Range State Park.


Conquer the iconic Sugarloaf Peak and South Jawbone ridgeline on this challenging 11-12km hike with 650m of elevation gain.


This adventure takes us up to the summit of Sugarloaf Peak before traversing the spectacular South Jawbone ridgeline. We’ll be skipping Well’s Cave on this hike, instead following a route that still delivers the park’s incredible scenery while avoiding the more technical cave section (future plans for this one).


🏔️ Expect steep ascents, granite rock scrambling, narrow ridgelines, and breathtaking 360° views across the Cathedral Ranges, the Acheron Valley, and surrounding mountain ranges. This is one of Victoria’s premier day hikes and offers a rewarding mix of adventure and scenery.


🥾 The hike is approximately 11-12km and is rated hard, making it best suited to hikers with a good level of fitness and confidence on rocky, uneven terrain.


Important: Please do not join this hike unless you’re a competent hiker. In your RSVP please confirm that you are not a beginner and have done rock scrambles.


⏱️ We’ll be hiking at a solid but social pace, with the walk expected to take approximately 4.5 hours, including plenty of time to stop for photos and enjoy the views.


☕ After conquering the range, we’ll head to Bucky Bistro for a well-earned coffee or bite to eat while we chat about the day.


🎒 Bring:
  • 💧 2-3L of water
  • 🥪 Lunch and snacks
  • 👟 Hiking boots or trail runners with good grip
  • 🧥 Weather-appropriate clothing including a jacket
