Levantine diaspora: picnic and cookbook perusal 🫒
A chill picnic to pick our first recipe!
Arabs, Levantine/Middle Eastern diaspora and migrants! Join us for a picnic in Coburg - and if the weather fails us, we'll move along to Balha's Bakery in Coburg for sweets & tea. Or maybe we'll do both! Let's play it by ear. Either way, we'll be picking our first recipe for us to try in our own time at home and compare notes later. Let's learn to cook our favourite Arab dishes!
⏰ When: 1pm Sunday 22/11/26
📍Where: a park in Coburg (exact picnic spot shared on the day)
👤Who: Levantine diaspora members/migrants (ie. Anyone from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine etc.) who's interested in cooking (even if they're bad at it!)
🧆 What to Bring: a picnic blanket and something to snack on & share, or nothing at all if you don't have the capacity
I'll bring the cookbook (it'll be a surprise) and a plate of hummus!
🫶 Notes: we welcome all faiths & require mutual respect. If you're bringing home-made food, please know for certain whether it's gluten free/vegetarian/Halal etc, and if you only eat gluten free/vegetarian/Halal foods, you're most welcome and are also responsible for your own dietary requirements.
No political talk pls & thx
About Homesick for Hummus
Homesick for Hummus is a kind-of-cookbook-club for Levantine diaspora (E.g. people from Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian etc. ethnic backgrounds), designed to help us reconnect with our culture through food and make friends along the way! Every month we'll pick one or two recipes from a cookbook that we then make in our own time, and get together again to share notes and try new restaurants and cafes that showcase the same cuisine.
