is your feminism fighting for everyone?

hood feminism by mikki kendall is a sharp indictment of mainstream feminism's failure to centre the material conditions of poor and working-class black and brown women. kendall argues that feminism obsessed with boardroom representation and "leaning in" has abandoned the actual survival needs of most women - food insecurity, housing, gun violence, education, healthcare. she shows how white feminism treats these as separate issues from "women's issues" rather than recognising them as feminism's core business. the book insists that solidarity built on erasure isn't solidarity at all, and that a movement claiming to speak for all women has to answer for who it's left behind. hood feminism is a demand to rebuild feminism from the ground up, starting with the women it's ignored. location tbc, sydney central/north

Meet the planner

I love weightlifting and I'm currently getting back into running, I’m actually training for my second half marathon! I'm big on trying new foods, experiencing different cultures, and seeing the world. Always up for a live gig or festival, techno/groove rave is my fav rn. But what I love most is d&ms about the hard stuff in the world (*cough, cough* capitalism) and how we plan to fix it, while also holding deep appreciation for what makes life so beautiful šŸ’›
